Former England captain John Terry criticised the BBC for their coverage of Cristiano Ronaldo's penalty miss against Slovenia, calling it a "disgrace."

On Monday night, Portugal advanced to the Euro 2024 quarter-finals by winning a penalty shootout after a 0-0 draw with Slovenia.

During the Euro 2024 round of 16 match, Ronaldo had his penalty saved by Slovenian goalkeeper Jan Oblak in extra time.

The emotional moment left Ronaldo in tears, though he composed himself to score in the subsequent shootout, leading his team to victory.

The BBC's analysis of Oblak's save included the caption 'Misstiano Penaldo,' which drew sharp criticism from Terry.

He expressed his disapproval on Instagram, stating, "BBC, this is a disgrace."

Terry's empathy for Ronaldo's situation is rooted in his own experience of missing a crucial penalty in the 2008 Champions League final.

Coincidentally, the Al-Nassr captain also missed a penalty in that same shootout, but his team, Manchester United, ultimately triumphed over Terry's Chelsea.

The hero of the match for Portugal was their goalkeeper Diogo Costa, who saved three penalties in the shootout, denying Josip Ilicic, Jure Balkovec, and Benjamin Verbic, securing Portugal's advancement, per ESPN.

What's next for Ronaldo and Portugal?

Ronaldo is yet to score his first goal at the tournament in Germany despite holding the record as the player with the most goals in the history of the competition.

The former Manchester United and Real Madrid star is making his final appearance at the Euros and will be hoping to crown it with success.

Meanwhile, their opponents for Friday's quarter-final defeated Belgium 1-0 in the earlier game on Monday, July 1, 2024. Second-half substitute Randal Kolo-Muani forced Jan Vertonghen into scoring an own goal with five minutes remaining, as reported by Sky Sports.
