What started as a festive celebration quickly escalated when a parade-goer allegedly hurled a water balloon at Trejo's vintage convertible, leading to punches thrown and a chair tossed in the melee. Read on for the inside scoop on how the Hollywood hardman handled the situation!

Don't mess with "Machete"

It was a sunny Independence Day in Los Angeles when Danny Trejo, cruising in his baby blue convertible, became the target of a not-so-festive water balloon attack. Eyewitness videos capture the moment Trejo, dressed sharply in a white shirt and black pants, leapt from his car to confront the assailant, only to find himself in a sprawling street fight.

The alleged attacker, clad in a tank top and backward hat, managed to dodge Trejo's punch, pushing the actor to the ground. But Trejo wasn't down for long; he quickly got up, grabbed a green foldable chair, and hurled it towards the brawl, which had now attracted more participants.

A large brawl then exploded between the suspect and others who jumped into the chaos. The alleged water balloon thrower hurled several punches at a second man before others pounced on him as the scuffle moved onto the sidewalk where spectators were set up to watch the parade.

In the video, Trejo is seen getting up from the ground, grabbing a green foldable chair, and tossing it into the rambunctious brawlers.

As the fight spilled onto the sidewalk, a brave woman rushed to restrain Trejo, holding him back from further chaos. Meanwhile, concerned parade-goers, aware of the children present, pleaded for peace. The scuffle, lasting about 30 seconds, ended as quickly as it began, with the crowd dispersing before police arrived on the scene.

Unscathed, Trejo later labeled the water balloon toss as "childish" and the perpetrators as "cowards." Despite the altercation, the actor, a native of Echo Park, Los Angeles, and a reformed man with a storied past of redemption, remained unfazed.

No one was arrested. TMZ reported that those accused of throwing the balloons were around 30 years old.

Trejo — who has openly spoken about his past drug addiction and his time locked up in the notoriously dangerous San Quentin State Prison — became sober in 1968 and was released from prison the following year before starting his decades-long acting career.

The brawl comes on the heels of personal loss for Trejo, who recently mourned the death of his beloved chihuahua, Dixie. Yet, the incident at the parade has only added to the legend of Danny Trejo, a man whose life off-screen is as colorful as his prolific acting career.
