OGHA Speaker Urges More Efforts against Land Grabbers

The Speaker of Ogun State House of Assembly, OGHA, Mr Oludaisi Elemide has emphasized the need for the government to strengthen efforts at checkmating the activities of land grabbers across the state.

Mr Elemide who stated this while addressing a group of protesters from Obada-Oko in Ewekoro Local Government Area of the state expressed concern that crimes were being committed under the guise of enforcement of court orders on landed properties. 

Mr Elemide warned security agencies to desist from providing illegal cover for land grabbers operating under the guise of estate developers and implored heads of security formations to redouble efforts towards curbing the menace which remained a major cause of unwarranted tension in many communities across the state. 

Speaking on behalf of the communities, the Baale Opelifa in Obada Oko, Chief Awopeju Saheed alleged that residents of the affected communities had experienced series of attacks, and threats to life and property, allegedly sponsored by notorious land grabbers.

Subsequently, the House announced the decision to invite concerned individuals, including Alhaji Mutairu Owoeye, Mr Garba Owoeye, Mr Sina Oladunjoye and the Secretary of Lasabi Family, Mr Tahoreed Bayo in connection to an alleged case of forcible occupation of landed properties spanning 12 Community Development Associations, at Obada-Oko, in Ewekoro Local Government Area of the state.

The chairman, House Committee on Lands and Housing, Mr Damilola Soneye, after a joint meeting of the House Committees on Lands and Housing as well as Justice, Ethics and Public Petitions, explained that the invitation became imperative, following a meeting with the petitioners led by Mr Bode Adeaga and Barrister Hafiz Ogabi, the solicitor to Alhaji Mutairu Owoeye.

The lawmaker said the invitees were expected to appear before the lawmakers on Thursday, 11th July 2024, by noon or risk being declared wanted and referred to security operatives in line with the rule of law.
