Hellboy: The Crooked Man - Cast, Story, Trailer & Everything We Know
Mike Mignola's Hellboy is returning to the big screen for an all-new adventure, and there are already a ton of exciting updates about Hellboy: The Crooked Man. First debuting in 1993, Mignola's comic book hero is a half-demon who was summoned to Earth and who eventually joins the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense in order to protect mankind from various monsters. With his gruff demeanor and unique power set, Hellboy quickly became a pulp comic favorite, and it didn't take long for the half-demon to make his way to the big screen.
Hellboy: The Crooked Man is only the latest in a line of Hellboy movies, and the second attempt at a reboot since the failure of the 2019 film. Though The Crooked Man has a lot to live up to, the involvement of Mike Mignola suggests that the story will stick closer to the original tone and intent of the comics. In an era of "superhero fatigue" that is gripping the big-budget adaptations of DC and Marvel Comics, Hellboy: The Crooked Man has an opportunity to revitalize the comic book movie genre by taking it back to its simpler roots.
After 2019's Hellboy failed commercially, the franchise is getting rebooted once again, but a few details hint that it could be much better.
After quietly chugging along behind the scenes, the latest news comes in the form of a trailer for Hellboy: The Crooked Man. Putting a heavy emphasis on the horror and mystery aspects of the comic book storyline, the teaser opens with establishing shots of the Appalachian environment, before delving deep into the lore of the eponymous villain. Hellboy and his new BPRD sidekick come face to face with more than one creepy entity, though the Crooked Man himself is left largely a mystery. It's unclear if a longer trailer will arrive before the movie's as-yet-unscheduled release date.
Considering the horror elements, Hellboy: The Crooked Man will likely arrive toward the Halloween season.
Hellboy: The Crooked Man has not set an exact release date yet, though it was revealed that the movie will arrive sometime in 2024. The bulk of the film's production came after cameras stopped rolling, and the film is likely to employ a large amount of special effects to supplement its story. Considering the horror elements, Hellboy: The Crooked Man will likely arrive toward the Halloween season.
