Guardian Nigeria 2024/10/5

Fast rising artiste, Neverlack, is bringing a fresh sound to the music industry, with his unique blend of old-school Afro Music and modern Pop sensibilities.

Showcasing this with his singles – Season Film and Rhythm and Blues – Neverlack says life experiences inspires his music.

His words: “Season film was inspired by a true life event. An emotional challenge I had in my life at a point then. I just had to channel my emotions and put it into a song. As an artiste, I have always loved the Dancehall genre. It gives me an active vibe and pushes me to vibe in my studio work space.

“Rhythm and blues is a blend of Afro music and Dancehall. I was inspired by the love I have for Dancehall music in the creation of the sound.”

How would he describe his music style and how does he blend old-school Afro Music with Pop sounds?

“I would describe my music style as an Afro-pop artiste. Music as we know has traditional root but rhythms and melody evolve and grow as it is inbuilt in every individual artiste. So, how I blend old school afro with pop sound is I listen to a lot of old school music so I infuse the sound and blend it with my style while producing my music,” he says.

On how he incorporates the influences of old-school Afro Music with modern Pop sensibilities into his new songs, Neverlack maintains that he produces his music and those tracks.

“I have much love for music that I learned how to use the production tools quite well and go through the process nicely. My creative process goes with whichever way I feel. When I’m happy I do music; when I’m sad I do music. When I’m emotional I also do music. So, each of these moods would tell how the sound and music would be after the final production.”

A multi-talented musician, Neverlack explains that there are few artistes that produce similar sounds like his, stressing that, “that brings the uniqueness and excessive demand by the fans and the market.”

Looking into the future, he says: “Every day we get better in life. So, I would put it out that I am still trying to do better and get to my peak when it comes to my vocals and lyrical prowess. I’m very good lyrically and I can tell you it’s not hard for me to tell a story with my song. It comes so easy; I know it’s has to be a gift. I would really love to explore R&B genre next because it’s a very calm music for the soul. It brings peace.”

Is he working on an EP or album that features these new songs, Neverlack responds: “The only thing next for me now is pushing my next priority and that would be my debut EP. It’s going to be a pack of surprises. I have been putting in my handwork and creativity with my team; so, it’s going to be a success.”

On his definition of success in the music industry, he notes: “Success in the music industry to my knowledge is attaining the power of music to the max level. Music is a universal language to bring different people from different places in the world under one voice. With music is success and I only plan to do that with handwork and consistency.”
