A young man has been left fuming after seeing a 'one-bedroom apartment' listed online for $390-per-week despite the kitchen and dining room being outside.
The fuming house hunter slammed the Queensland property market online after noticing the 'disgusting' detail and others couldn't believe it.
Photos by the agent show a covered outdoor area that has a fridge, cupboard, cook top, food storage areas, a dining table and benches under tarps.
The 'wild' living arrangement 'looked to be tacked on to someone's four bedroom house' according to the man.
'It looks the owner took the master bedroom of a house and just threw the kitchen and dining outside on the patio,' he said.
The photos infuriated thousands on the 'sh**y rentals' thread on Reddit.
'That's got to be illegal,' one said.
'If I had friends or family trying to pull this s*** I'd be so f****** ashamed,' another agreed.
One Redditor said if it was a $100 per week and they were 'desperate' they might consider it but claimed '$390 is just taking the p***'.
'Lots of houses have outdoor kitchens, but they are second kitchens for outdoor entertainment, not for living in and they don't look like this,' one shocked man said.
People couldn't understand why the large family home had been broken up and rented out.
'Is this rental ad a really terrible attempt at a subdivision,' asked one confused woman.
People were also concerned about the exposure to the elements and especially rain.
'That's how you clean it,' someone joked.
Others said that mosquitos, possums, toads, roaches and rats would end up plaguing the space and would get into the food storage areas.
And some just thought it was an eyesore.
'All that going on right outside your bedroom sliding doors, for that price,' one man said.
The listing had commenters furious at the audacity of the landlord.
'WTH. This is disgusting. Report,' one said.
'Quick call to the council and they'll be all over that scam setup,' another fumed.
'Maybe I can start renting out my cupboard. I could fit a bed in there and maybe fit in a shelf or drawer,' one man scoffed.
While some were impressed with the kitchen's sturdiness saying, 'that's no wobbly IKEA two bit set up,' they all agreed the listing was 'insane' for the price.
The cost of living and rental crises have seen a rise in dodgy rental listings that would ordinarily struggle to lure in renters.
Desperation has seen families resorting to sleeping in cars or tents because they can't secure proper housing.
Deloitte Access Economics partner Stephen Smith said that Australians not building enough homes to overtake migration and the soaring costs of building materials and labour are to blame for the crisis.
Mr Smith thought that the availability and the affordability of homes was likely to get worse in the near future, before it gets better.
