Congressman Nathaniel Moran (R-TX-01) recently recognized the inaugural class of Texas First Congressional Service Award recipients.

This award was presented by Congressman Moran to spotlight a special category of high school students in the First Congressional District of Texas. The awardees were selected from more than 100 high schools across the 17 counties in the First Congressional District. Awards are made to students who have performed an act of service or sacrifice or have gone above and beyond in volunteerism or community service.

This award honors the “unsung heroes” within a school or community and recognizes those who have shown selfless behavior, gone out of their way to serve others, and who exemplify the true spirit of Texas.

Locally, recipients included Waskom seniors Karla Perez and Edward Zuniga, Hallsville seniors Maci Posey and Katie Hall, and Jefferson seniors Michelle Brady and Luis Gomez.

“I am honored to congratulate the inaugural class of recipients of the Texas First Congressional Service Award and to thank them for their humility, dedication, and selflessness,” said Moran. “As the first-ever awardees of this recognition, these students have displayed outstanding character, exemplifying the true spirit of Texas by shining a light of service and compassion to the world around us. I applaud these young people for going above and beyond to serve their schools, communities, state, and our great nation. May God bless these students and guide their future endeavors.”

The Texas First Congressional Service Award is not a scholarship, but rather a service award to recognize deserving students in the First Congressional District of Texas. Nominees should be one male and one female from each school, preferably at the junior or senior level. For more information or to make nominations, please email MoranStudentServices@mail.house.gov.
