Who is Robert Yniguez from Netflix's Homicide: Los Angeles?

Robert Yniguez, born on may 12, 1951, is a sexual predator who has been convicted of multiple crimes, including murder.

He served eight years of a 12-year prison term for a sexual assault he committed in 1982 in the South Bay area of Los Angeles.

According to Sheriff's Homicide Bureau Detective Ralph Hernandez, Yniguez was also arrested in February 1981 in connection with another sexual assault.

But the case was eventually dropped when the alleged victim stopped cooperating with law enforcement.

After his release from prison, Yniguez got married and found work as a construction worker.

In October 2019, Yniguez was sentenced to 15 years to life in state prison for the murder of 20-year-old Teresa Broudreaux.

Her naked body was discovered early in the morning of March 4, 1980, on the shoreline of Malaga Cove Beach in Palos Verdes Estates.

Broudreaux was the mother of a four-year-old daughter, had recently got married, and was also pregnant when she was killed.

Bordeaux was beaten over the head and killed.

As there were no witnesses, the case went cold for years.

That is until the case was reviewed by a specialist squad in 2013, who uncovered DNA evidence that had been collected at the crime scene.

Los Angeles County Sheriff Jim McDonnell said: “Years later, a series of coincidences and new DNA technology produced an unexpected break in the case.”

Yniguez was questioned about the murder of Broudreaux several times from 2013 up until his arrest.

But when detectives finally came knocking on his door in September 2017, he was still surprised, Hernandez said.
