William Gallas has had his say on the imminent arrival of Riccardo Calafiori to Arsenal this summer window.

After an impressive season with Bologna, in which he helped the Italians get into the Champions League, and then some impressive performances at the Euros 2024 in Germany, Arsenal have made the decision to sign the defender.

Despite having the best defensive record in the Premier League last season – Mikel Arteta is keen to keep on adding to his squad over the next few months and buying players that he believes will improve the squad.

It has been claimed that Calafiori has agreed terms with the Gunners and a few has also been agreed – and ahead of his potential arrival to the club – former Gunners ace Gallas feels ARSENAL and Calafiori represent a perfect match, he fears he may struggle initially to adapt to the demands of English football, particularly if his minutes are limited.

‘Still only 22, Riccardo Calafiori has shown a lot of quality and I think Arsenal would be a very good match for him,’ Gallas, the former Arsenal captain, told Lord Ping.

‘The only issue would be giving him time to adapt to the Premier League and give him a chance to get a run of games in the starting XI.

‘He’s still young and he still needs to improve his game, he doesn’t quite have that experience yet. At that age you need to play alongside a player like Thiago Silva but if it’s William Saliba and Gabriel, you can still learn so much from them.’

Look, Calafiori has not been signed to be the immediate regular starter for ARSENAL – he is back-up to Gabriel and William Saliba – so he will be given time to adjust to the Premier League.

It is a solid addition to that Arsenal side when the deal is announced.
