The Federal Government through the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons, has donated relief materials to 1,000 victims of windstorms across the 13 local government areas of Nasarawa State.

There were recent cases of windstorms in some communities across the state which rendered many residents homeless with sources of livelihood destroyed.

Speaking at the distribution exercise on Friday evening in Lafia, the Federal Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of the Refugees, Migrants and IDPs Commission, Aliyu Ahmed-Tijani, commiserated with the victims of the windstorms and assured them of the federal government’s support throughout the process of recovering their losses.

Ahmed-Tijani stated that apart from the relief items which include foodstuffs and other essentials, the government had mapped out plans to construct skills acquisition centres for Internally Displaced Persons in Nasarawa and other states of the federation for the benefit of the young citizens who may be out of school for some time.

He however explained that the Commission had come up with measures to guard against shortchanging victims in the distribution of relief materials provided, adding that the federal government under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu sees the needs of Internally Displaced Persons as a top priority of his administration.

“I would like to sincerely commiserate with all those who have lost their families, homes and sources of livelihood occasioned by natural disasters as a result of climate change, banditry and other forms of man’s inhumanity to fellow man.

“I want to assure you that by the grace of God, they will not be forgotten. We will stand with the people of the state through thick and thin until their livelihoods are fully restored in a dignified manner.”
