Following the recent dispute between Senator Ireti Kingibe and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, Senate President Godswill Akpabio intervened to address the situation.

During the inauguration of the significant Kugbo Bus Terminal construction in the FCT on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, Akpabio asked Wike to disregard criticisms from Senator Kingibe.

The Senate President commend Wike for his efforts to improve the capital's infrastructure and advised him to ignore Kingibe's complaints about being excluded from FCT administration activities.

Senator Kingibe, a member of the Labour Party (LP), and Nyesom Wike who was appointed by President Bola Tinubu as the FCT Minister, have been in conflict over the administration of the country’s capital.

On Monday, July 1, Kingibe raised concerns during an interview on Arise Television about feeling sidelined by Wike in the administration of the FCT. In response, Wike threatened to unseat Kinigbe in the next election.

Akpabio, however, criticised Kingibe while reiterating his support for Wike.

He said;

“I saw one of the legislators on television talking about you (Wike) and mentioning the fact that she was not carried along.

“Well, she is a member of the Senate. Once a decision is taken, she is bound by the decision. So, please ignore every distraction (from her) and rest assured that no matter what you do, not everyone will praise you. Others will still try to find faults. Some will say why roads alone? But look at where we are now.”
