Amusan, who was unable to defend her women’s 100m hurdles title due to illness, saw her three-year reign come to an end.

In her absence, Liberia’s Ebony Morrison clinched her first victory in the women’s 100m hurdles final.

The 27-year-old Amusan made a remarkable recovery to participate in the women’s 4x100m relay, anchoring the team to a gold medal with a final time of 42.72 seconds.

Reflecting on her performance, Amusan said, “I had to step in for the team, brace and do my thing for the country. I’m just glad that I was able to have that little strength in me to push through to the finish line. Last year wasn’t healthy, and I just wish I could compete here and there.”

Amusan was part of the Group when they won the gold in the African games in Accra earlier this year.

With the African Championships behind her, the Champion now shifts her focus to the Paris 2024 Olympics, scheduled to take place from July 26 to August 11.
