Coach of newly promoted Nigeria Premier Football League side, Beyond Limits Football Academy, Olumide Ajibolade has surprisingly stated that they don’t go into tournaments to win.

According to the self-styled coach, whose team plays one of the most delectable brand of football in Nigeria, they take each match at a time, because they understand that success is a journey.

Therefore, they focus on that process, they don’t set their targets too far, rather they take it one step at a time, one game at a time and most importantly one player at a time, ensuring that the players can take their growth seriously.

Whatever the players do in the game is more important than the result for them, he told our reporter at Remo, Ikenne, Ogun state, during a friendly duel with Eagle Stars of Lagos which they won 9-0.

“For us promotion was not the target, the target was to always be excellent in every game that we played.

“The boys understood that every tournament we compete in; that we give our best and we are able to learn from it.

“Going forward is up to our management to decide.

“But we are ready to compete in any competition we find ourselves.

“We are not really pressed on the tournament itself as long as it’s an avenue to grow, for the players to compete, we are always ready for the challenge.

“We don’t go into tournaments to win the tournament, we take each match at a time, because we understand that success is a journey, so we focus on the process, he explained.

Speaking on their Viareggio cup win in Italy a couple of months ago, Ajibolade said:

“In Italy it was about each game but we found ourselves in the final and we took the final as it is.

On the news of about nine of their players leaving for Europe to sign fresh contract, the young coach reacted thus:

“We don’t share transfer information until it is done. “The media has the right to speculate, but actually we will do some transfer business this summer, which is the essence of the project.

“We need to sale players to stay in business, it’s not a charitable organization.

“The essence of growing the players is to transfer them, so that they can continue their journey to greater heights.

“They may be some truth in what you read because we will hopefully do some transfer business between now and June, which I believe most of the players will move on.

Ajibolade further opined that poverty is the biggest motivation for his players.

“Look at Nigeria as an economy, what else could be the motivation?, he queried.

“Who wants to continue to suffer? This fight is not about the opponent, it’s about poverty.

“Football is just the tool, so they understand it.

“Trophy will be rusted, medals will get lost, but what does the players do with their lives?.

“They have got families, so it’s important that the players understand that the future is up to them.

“Football has shown that it can change story and that of people around you, that’s enough motivation.

“If you succeed, it’s not me the coach that will get the financial gain but the player and their family.

“The motivation is clear and they understand it and that’s our objective to be able to give them a chart for a better life”, he concluded.
