Adam Idah won over a lot of fans during his six-month loan spell at Celtic last season.

Everyone got a taste of what the Norwich City star produced and now those associated with Celtic want him back on a permanent basis.

But it won’t be easy because he is still a Norwich player, they have a new manager and they probably want an inflated fee for the striker.

The thing with Idah is that he scored some big, big goals for Celtic, including the stoppage-time winner against Rangers in the Scottish Cup final.

But it doesn’t guarantee that Brendan Rodgers will get him back, which then raises the question as to who else Celtic should target.

In terms of transfer fees, the Scottish Premiership champions can push the boat out to a certain extent, but it’s the salary part that also kills them.

That was touched upon by Simon Donnelly and how the transfer fees, plus the salary to go with it, is ‘ridiculous’ and something Celtic can’t compete with, as he highlighted Max Kilman’s transfer from Wolves to West Ham United.

But it was suggested to him that Rodgers should perhaps look to sign Scotland international Che Adams instead of Idah.

Even though Adams has Premier League experience, Donnelly simply can’t see it and stated that he would be ‘surprised’ if it happens, as he told Clyde 1.

Che Adams at Celtic

“It goes back to Jamie Vardy, it’s the salaries,” said Donnelly. “Listen, Celtic in the Champions League and everything that comes with it.

“But we have to just look at that transfer from Wolves to West Ham (Max Kilman). £40 million. That’s ridiculous.

“If there is interest down there and the salaries they can pay, then I would be surprised if somebody like Che Adams came to Scotland. It’s hard to compete with, it really is. I get how it is. I have played at Celtic. I know how great of a club it is. But these guys probably won’t get their head turned because of the finance they can achieve in a contract down there.”

Celtic need to start to motor in the transfer market

Pre-season is underway, players are getting minutes under their belt and starting to improve their fitness.

Some key players haven’t returned yet because of international commitments this summer, so it will be a while before Rodgers gets his full squad back.

Plus, there is talk about Hyeongyu Oh leaving Celtic, and you feel he won’t be the only one, so you sense a lot of changes are yet to be made.

But it seems as though bringing in Idah is a must because of the huge impact he made during such a short period of time.
