Netflix has released a first-look set photo of Cillian Murphy in his new movie Steve, which he stars in and produces.

Adapted from Max Porter's bestselling book Shy, the movie follows a pivotal day in the life of headteacher Steve (Cillian) and his students at a last-chance reform college as they fight to stop its impending closure.

As Steve grapples with his own mental health, the movie also follows troubled teen Shy (Jay Lycurgo) who is caught between his past and his future as he reckons with his impulse for self-destruction and violence.

Check out the first-look set photo of Steve below, released to mark the movie wrapping production later this week on Friday (July 5).

Steve marks the first movie for Cillian's production company Big Things Films, which he founded with long-time collaborator Alan Moloney and was spawned out of the duo working together on Small Things Like These.

It's being directed by Tim Mielants with Max Porter adapting his own book for the movie, which will act as a reimagining of the story.

"It was Max's idea to change the perspective and flip it around to the headteacher who runs this institution," Cillian told Deadline earlier this year when Steve was officially announced by Netflix.

"Myself and Alan and Max got on a call and we started to turn it around in our heads and it seemed like we could make a film out of it. The same events happen, we're just looking at them through a different lens."

Small Things Like These recently confirmed its UK release, while Cillian is set to reprise two iconic roles in the coming months: 28 Days Later's Jim in sequel 28 Years Later and as Tommy Shelby in the Peaky Blinders movie.

Last month, it was confirmed that the long-awaited Peaky Blinders movie would be released by Netflix.
