The Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, has pledged to take firm action against two individuals reportedly caught on tape dumping refuse into floodwater.

A photograph circulating on social media depicts a man and a woman maneuvering a drum along their inundated street. The image, shared by a user on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), alleges that the pair were discarding waste into the floodwater using the drum.

The viral post, which has garnered significant attention and sparked outrage among Lagos residents, prompted a swift response from Commissioner Wahab. He condemned the actions depicted in the photo and assured the public that measures would be taken to address the situation.

Wahab expressed his dismay over the behavior of the individuals, highlighting the detrimental impact such actions have on the environment and the exacerbation of flooding issues in Lagos.

The Commissioner reiterated the government’s commitment to environmental protection and maintaining clean waterways. He emphasized the need for strict enforcement of environmental laws and called on residents to act responsibly to prevent further environmental degradation.

Wahab also mentioned that his office is working closely with relevant authorities to identify the individuals involved and ensure that they face appropriate sanctions. He urged citizens to support the government’s efforts by reporting similar incidents and adhering to proper waste disposal practices.
