Assistant inspector-general of police (AIG) Zone 15, Abdu Umar, has said the Nigerian military, the police and other security agencies in the state have held a strategic meeting against the resurgence of terrorism, especially the acts of suicide bombings like last Saturday’s incident which claimed 32 lives and injured 40 others in Gwoza local government area of Borno State.
AIG Umar, who disclosed this yesterday during an interaction with journalists over the Gwoza suicide bomb attacks, said a lot of measures, which are security matters that could not be disclosed, were discussed during the meeting, thus urging the public to remain calm and report any suspicious activities seen around.
He said the joint effort aims to proactively detect and neutralise potential threats, ensuring citizens’ safety and preventing the re-emergence of suicide bombings in the state.
According to the AIG, the police discussed with the theatre Commander “Operation Hadin Kai” (OPHK), Maj. Gen Waidi Shuaibu, to strategise and develop a tactical plan to effectively counter and combat the resurgence of Boko Haram’s suicide bombings in Borno State and environs.
He stated that the police and security agencies, led by the military, have made significant efforts to fight the state’s insurgency.
He expressed gratitude for the progress made, which has enabled commercial activities to thrive and freedom of movement, as enshrined in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The police chief recalled the challenges faced between 2009 and recently but appreciated the support of the military, police, and other security agencies.
Umar thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the inspector-general of police, for the financial support and structures provided to the police and other security agencies in Borno and Yobe states.
He expressed his appreciation for the support he received from journalists during his tenure and acknowledged their contributions to his success.
He expressed his gratitude to civil society organisations (CSOs) for their collaboration and support throughout his tenure in office.
Umar also acknowledged the role of traditional rulers in the efforts to restore peace in Borno state.
