Reports indicate that the elections, overseen by Isiaka Olagunju, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), were met with a mixture of reactions. While OYSIEC officially declared the elections as peaceful across all 33 local government areas and 361 wards, there were accounts of voter disinterest, delayed arrival of electoral materials, and irregularities in numerous polling stations. Despite these hurdles, winners were announced the subsequent day, with candidates from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) reportedly securing victory in all positions.

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State applauded the peaceful conduct of the elections, lauding the citizens for their participation and acknowledging positive security reports. Similarly, Hon. Adedeji Stanley Olajide, a member of the House of Representatives, commended the orderly nature of the elections and praised security agencies for their contributions.

However, the All Progressives Congress (APC), the primary opposition party in the state, called for the nullification of the elections, denouncing them as fraudulent. The APC accused the ruling PDP of engineering electoral malpractices and criticized OYSIEC for alleged irregularities, such as tardy arrival of officials and insufficient voting materials. Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Electoral Matters, echoed these concerns, asserting that OYSIEC was ill-prepared for the elections.

Former local government chairman Dr. Thomas Olayode and public commentator Dr. Bayonle Busari both voiced criticism against the elections, citing delays in material delivery, irregularities, and low voter turnout. They characterized the process as undermining democracy and a display of disgrace.

In summary, the local government elections in Oyo State have sparked significant controversy and discussion, with stakeholders expressing varying opinions on the conduct and outcome of the polls.
