In a commendable effort to enhance educational outcomes, His Royal Highness (Osu Lumor) Jeroboam Yah Nii Armah Blackwell, who reigns under the historical stool name “Nii Armah Gbejelor 1st,” has been actively collaborating with the Osu Djaasze to prepare the children of the Osu empire for the 2024 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
The BECE, administered by the Ghana Education Service under the Ministry of Education, is a pivotal examination that qualifies students for admission into secondary and vocational schools in Ghana. This crucial exam, taken after three years of junior secondary education, will see significant changes in 2024.
This year, final-year Junior High School (JHS) students in Osu will be introduced to three new subjects as part of their BECE curriculum. Based on information from the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), the new subjects are Career Technology, Creative Art and Design, and Arabic. Career Technology and Creative Art and Design, both derived from the previous Basic Design and Technology (BDT) syllabus, will be mandatory for all candidates, while Arabic will be an optional subject for students in Islamic basic schools.
As a result of these additions, the 2024 BECE will extend over six days instead of the traditional five, running from Monday, July 8, 2024, to Monday, July 15, 2024.
