Ishola A.R. Adedoyin, popularly known as Donny Crown, is an emerging Nigerian artiste with a passion for storytelling and a genuine love for music. He continues to rise on an international acclaim, bringing the vibrant rhythms of Afrobeat to life. His tunes are a celebration of culture and rhythm, resonating with fans across the globe.

His journey began in primary school with the Combatrin Kids Club, where he sang songs about health and deworming awareness. “I quickly became the go-to student for learning and teaching these songs, which sparked my passion for music. My dad’s love for various music genres, both local and international, further nurtured this passion. In secondary school, I was in a boarding house and would sing to cope with loneliness. This caught the attention of seniors who made me sing for them, which initially felt like a punishment but eventually became a joy and deepened my love for music. After secondary school, before gaining admission to the university, I recorded my first single, which received great support from family and friends,” he said.

During his university days at the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akongba (AAUA), he performed at numerous events, including freshers’ orientations, and became well-known on campus. “My musical talent even led to me being appointed as the social director in my department. These experiences, from my early days in the Combatrin Kids Club to my university performances, have been instrumental in shaping my journey to becoming an internationally acclaimed Afrobeats artist.”

Hailing from Oyo State has shaped his music and storytelling with its rich cultural heritage and traditional influences. The rhythms, melodies, and folklore from my upbringing blend into my contemporary sound, creating authentic and relatable music.

“I incorporate Afrobeat’s vibrant rhythms and cultural significance into my music by using traditional African instruments and rhythms, blending them with modern sounds. I also draw from African folklore and everyday life, ensuring my lyrics and melodies reflect the rich cultural heritage and storytelling traditions of Afrobeat. This fusion helps create a unique sound that honours the roots of the genre while bringing a fresh perspective,” he said.

He added: “Through my music, I aim to convey themes of resilience, cultural pride, positivity, and unity. I draw from personal experiences and cultural heritage to create songs that inspire and uplift. These themes resonate with listeners by providing a sense of connection and empowerment, reminding them of their own strength and the importance of staying true to their roots.”

Money for Hand with the late Mohbad holds a special place in his heart. This song was pivotal in bringing him to the limelight, and it signifies the light of Mohbad shining on his career. The collaboration not only boosted his visibility but also allowed him to connect deeply with listeners, sharing a piece of Mohbad’s legacy and their shared journey.

His debut EP, Only Light, is on the way, and it reflects the profound belief that darkness cannot drive out darkness; Only Light can do that.

“My goals for the future include continuing to spread positivity and love through my music, pushing creative boundaries, and collaborating with diverse artists to create impactful art,” he surmised.
