Over the weekend in Finsbury Park, London, England, music fans and festival enthusiasts alike immersed themselves in the lights, cameras, and vibrant atmosphere of Wireless Festival, ensuring another memorable experience yet again.

“Wireless Fest” as it is fondly called is an annual music festival in London, England, dedicated to rap and hip-hop. Owned and managed by Live Nation, the festival originally featured rock and pop music but has shifted its focus to hip-hop and various other genres since the early 2010s.  The”Wireless Fest” in London has long been an item of the UK’s music festival scene, drawing in some of the biggest names in hip-hop, R&B and Electronic music.

The three-day event was announced to hold from Friday July 12 to Sunday 14, 2024, featuring major headline artists Nicki Minaj, 21 Savage, J Hus, and Doja Cat and also supporting artists Sean Paul, Asake, Ayra Starr, Ice Spice, Rema, Ruger, Gunna, Sexyy Red, Fridayy, Tyla and many more.

This year fest was no exception, delivering an unforgettable weekend music, energy and surprise. Here are some of the standout moments that got people talking;

  1. Nicki Minaj & Other Headliners With Stellar Performances

Dancehall Legend and fan favorite Sean Paul had such a stellar performance during his set, opening the show with popular hits like She Doesn’t Mind and Temperature bringing such fantastic vibes and energy. Sean definitely had the crowd up the whole time singing back to him as expected as it is no secret every club in the UK will have Sean Paul thrill guests on their playlist. On the last song, he brought his kids on stage, and the crowd cheered excitedly. 

Although, to the surprise of many, Atlanta-based trap artist Future took to the stage late to the displease of eager fans but still had a good time, however short for a headline slot.

Finally, Nicki Minaj took center stage, the moment all the ‘barbz’ had been waiting for. She delivered an awe-inspiring 90-minute performance. Her set showcased impressive production, lively dance routines, and incredible outfits.

Minaj’s lasting influence in hip-hop was clearly evident as she delighted the audience with a performance that included hits from her extensive discography, alongside new tracks from “Pink Friday 2” and the performance climax being Super Bass and Starships. 

The rap Queen infused personal touches into her lyrics during the performance, notably in ‘Super Bass’, where she openly shared her affinity for English boys, she said she’s ‘really got a thing for English boys’, thereby deepening her emotional rapport with the audience.

The set’s standout feature was the stunning stage design and screen animations that synchronized with Nicki’s costume changes—they were truly impressive. The addition of extra pyrotechnics made the performance visually stunning and an ideal headline act to conclude day one.

London-born rapper “21 Savage”, who just released third Album American dream, also shared his excitement having graced the Wireless Fest for the first time, “so happy to be returning home and headlining wireless for the very first time” he said.

  1. Ayra Starr Finds Love: Serenading a Fan at Wireless Fest Leads to a Heartfelt Connection

Afrobeats Star Ayra Starr created an unforgettable moment at the Wireless Festival by serenading a lucky fan. The celestial being’s heartfelt performance added a personal touch to the electrifying event, leaving the audience in awe.

She further took to her official X app account to declare “I think I met the love of my life ☺” We are rooting for them, innit?

  1. Asake’s Performance Was A Statement 

He started his set with a memorable entrance, after he supposedly recreated Lil Yatchy’s iconic entrance to perform, as he performs the song “Organize” from the album “MMWTV” at the Wireless Festival. The crowd got really excited when Asake came out on stage with his band, dancers, and hype man, creating an energetic atmosphere that everyone will remember.

As part of his Lungu Boy World Tour ’24, his performance at the Wireless Festival was a big deal. Backstage, Asake was seen hanging out with Nigerian stars Shallipopi and DJ Cuppy, who also performed at the festival.

Asake’s exciting performance at the Wireless Festival affirms that he’s one of Africa’s best performers and biggest stars, making him even more popular in the music world.

  1. Rema & Shallipopi Performed “Benin Boy” For The First Time To 50,000+ Attendees At The Wireless Festival.

This dynamic Afrobeat duo took to the festival stage with their new hit single “Benin Boys,” delighting over 50,000 attendees—a standout moment for both artists. Shallipopi also pumped the crowd up, with everyone singing along to his popular track “E DON CAST.”

Rema added to the excitement by bringing out Darkoo for an unexpected remix of her global smash “Favorite Girl,” much to the fans’ surprise.

Grammy award winner and renowned performer Doja Cat shut down Wireless Fest in style with an electric performance.

The festival organizers announced it would end early on Sunday night to allow attendees enough time to travel home from Finsbury Park and watch England play in the Euro 2024 final, which coincided with Doja Cat’s headline performance time. The announcement initially sparked some outrage among fans, but Doja Cat delivered a spectacular show, ensuring the festival ended on a high note for attendees.
