Anthony Gordon is going to be linked with Liverpool for some time yet, it seems, after the Newcastle United winger emerged as a possible target last week. While those negotiations fell down, that might not be the end of the story.

But the forward line is not the only position that Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes should be prioritizing this summer. A new center-back is a must and a world-class holding midfielder would be ideal, if that is possible.

Here is the Liverpool.com verdict on the transfer gossip to emerge around the Reds today. There is another update surrounding the future of Gordon, but we start with a look at a player who won the Bundesliga last year and helped his side to an unbeaten domestic campaign.

Jeremie Frimpong (Bayer Leverkusen)

According to the German outlet Sport BILD, Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has personally reached out to Bayer Leverkusen wing-back Jeremie Frimpong in a bid to convince him to move to Anfield. The player is said to be available to sign this summer for a fee of around $43m (£34m/€40m), which would be a relative bargain in the current transfer climate.

The new Liverpool home shirt for the 2024/2025 season features a chrome yellow pattern design and is a modern take on the legendary '84 home shirt - a season which saw the Reds become European Champions for the fourth time in Rome and the first English Club to win a treble of major honours. Plenty of other sides around Europe are also thought to be taking a look at the player, who was hugely impressive under Xabi Alonso last season as Leverkusen won the Bundesliga title. Manchester United, for instance, is also said to have made contact.

Liverpool.com says: It would only make sense to buy Frimpong if he was going to play right-back and Trent Alexander-Arnold was set to move into midfield. The chances of that happening are surely slim given the tight turnaround until the new season starts.

Anthony Gordon (Newcastle United)

Liverpool's interest in Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon has not gone away, according to the Daily Mail, even though talks broke down over the 23-year-old last week. The Magpies wanted to include Jarell Quansah to be involved in part exchange.

It is hinted that Liverpool could return for the player before the summer is out because a deal is "not completely dead". Gordon is only under contract until 2026 at St James' Park and while Newcastle wants to extend his contract, it remains to be seen whether or not he will be open to that.
