Another Hunger Games Prequel Star Joins Hunter Schafer in Blade Runner 2099

Blade Runner 2099 has added a few more names to its already stacked cast. The latest actor to sign on to the series, which is led by Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh, is Dimitri Abold, known for playing Reaper in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes.

Per Deadline, other additions to Blade Runner 2029 are Lewis Gribben (Somewhere Boy) as a series regular, along with Katelyn Rose Downey (The Nun II), Daniel Rigby (Renegade Nell), Johnny Harris (A Gentleman in Moscow), Amy Lennox (Only Child), Sheila Atim (The Woman King) and Matthew Needham (House of the Dragon) in recurring guest roles.

Abold is not the only Hunger Games actor to land a role in the highly-anticipated Prime Video series.Hunter Schafer, who played Coriolanus's older cousin and confidante Tigris Snow, was added to the cast in mid-June. Details regarding The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes actors' roles in Blade Runner 2029 remain under wraps for now, though both Schafer and Abold will appear as series regulars. Plot details are still unknown, but the title suggests the series will take place 50 years after the events of Blade Runner 2049.

Blade Runner 2099 Has Been In The Works For Years

Blade Runner 2099 began development in February 2022, with Amazon officially announcing the series in September 2022. Ridley Scott, the director of the original Blade Runner, is an executive producer, with Silka Luisa serving as showrunner. Jonathan van Tulleken, who worked on the first two episodes of the FX series Shōgun, is directing the first two episodes. Alcon Entertainment co-founders Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson (among others) will serve as executive producers.

Blade Runner 2099 Gets Exciting Update After Production Delay

Blade Runner 2099 is getting back on track with an exciting update on the Blade Runner 2049 follow-up.

"We are honored to be able to present this continuation of the Blade Runner franchise, and are confident that by teaming up with Ridley, Alcon Entertainment, Scott Free Productions, and the remarkably talented Silka Luisa, Blade Runner 2099 will uphold the intellect, themes, and spirit of its film predecessors," Vernon Sanders, Amazon Studios' head of global television, said in a statement when the series was announced.

Blade Runner 2099 officially began production in June 2024, with filming expected to run through December. The series is being filmed on location in Prague and Spain. The original Blade Runner was based on Philip K. Dick's novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? Directed by Ridley Scott from a script by Hampton Fancher and David Peoples, the film is set in a futuristic 2019. The story follows police officer Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), who hunts advanced replicants led by Roy Batty (Rutger Hauer).

Blade Runner 2099 will be available to stream on Prime Video. However, the series does not have a premiere date.
