Giancarlo Esposito, who played Moff Gideon (and his Force clones) in The Mandalorian across 10 episodes, hinted at a possible return to the faraway galaxy. While nothing has been officially confirmed, the actor says he will be there if series creator Jon Favreau and producer Dave Filoni need him.

"You know, I don't know anything about that at the present, but I put out there that if they need me I'll be there," Esposito told Deadline via X when asked if he would be returning to the Star Wars universe. The actor also expressed his admiration for the creative team responsible for the hit streaming series. "I love what Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, and Disney does with Mandalorian – and who knows? There may be a moment where I can swoop down and take over once again."

Esposito made his Star Wars debut as Moff Gideon in The Mandalorian where he served as the primary villain for three seasons. As the leader of what remained of the fallen Galactic Empire, the character used his Darksaber-wielding skills to purge Mandalore. Gideon also tried to capture Grogu several times to obtain his Force sensitive blood. He eventually met his demise in an explosion in Mandalore.

The next Star Wars project that Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy is most excited about is The Mandalorian & Grogu. Kennedy made the revelation after throwing the first pitch at a Los Angeles Dodgers baseball game, saying that she was "really looking forward" to the upcoming film. The movie will be a continuation of The Mandalorian and takes place after the show's third season.

Esposito Will Appear in Captain America: Brave New World

While his Star Wars return remains unconfirmed, Esposito, who is best known for playing Gus Fring on the popular crime drama series Breaking Bad, will make his MCU debut in Captain America: Brave New World. While the actor is unable to share too many details about his character, he did offer some insight into what fans can expect from his role.

"When you see me in the MCU, you're going to see a badass, and I'm excited for that," Esposito explained. "Acting is using every part of your body, your emotions, your senses, your feelings, to portray something. But you haven't seen me use my body in a way that I'll be using it. The MCU's exciting. I can't tell you who I'm playing, but you're going to be excited when you see."

Captain America: Brave New World hits theaters worldwide on Feb. 14, 2025. The Mandalorian & Grogu will be released in theaters on May 22, 2026.
