A couple of years ago, Netflix released Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, a true crime drama depicting the murders committed by serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer.

Now, the true crime series is back to focus on another story as a second season of Monster is in the works and the cast has been announced.

This time around, the title will be Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, and if you're not familiar with their case then gather round and prick up your ears.

Lyle and Erik Menendez are brothers who shot and killed their parents at their Beverly Hills home in 1989.

During their trial, they argued that they had been sexually abused by their parents for years and that was the reason, while prosecutors argued that they'd been motivated by money.

On the night their parents were killed the brothers had claimed that they'd gone to see a movie, finding the bodies of 45-year-old father Jose and 47-year-old mother Kitty.

The couple had been shot multiple times by shotguns, with Lyle having returned to his car to reload.

Months later they started making lavish purchases, racking up around $700,000 (£550,000) and police started looking at them as the most likely suspects.

They attempted to get Erik to confess by making his friend wear a wire while asking him about it, but he said denied the accusation.

In the end he did confess to his psychologist, who then gossiped about it to his mistress who then told the police after they broke up.

In 1996 the brothers were sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

That's the true crime story that Netflix will depict in Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, and they've found their actors for the killers themselves.

They've said that relatively fresh actors Nicholas Alexander Chavez and Cooper Koch will portray Lyle and Erik in the series.

Meanwhile, Javier Bardem and Chloe Sevigny will play parents Jose and Kitty Menendez.

The same production team behind Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story are back to make this true crime series for Netflix.

Dallas Roberts will play therapist Dr. Jerome Oziel, American Horror Story's Leslie Grossman takes on the role of his mistress Judalon Smyth.

This also won't be the only instalment of the Monster series, as Netflix did announce in 2022 that it had been 'renewed for two more installments.

Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story will release on Netflix later on in 2024, no official release date has yet been confirmed.
