A Nigerian man, Fola David, is aiming to break the Guinness World Record for the largest drawing by an individual.

The medical doctor and hyper-realism artist will create a drawing titled “Unity in Diversity” and this will feature a map of Nigeria celebrating its rich cultural heritage on an 850-square-metre canvas.

“This artwork is a tribute to our diverse cultural identities and a call for unity and peace among Nigeria’s various tribes,” David stated. “I hope it fosters understanding and harmony in our nation,” Fola said.

The event, set to take place at Lagos’ Onikan Stadium, will run from July 16 to July 21. David’s goal is to complete the drawing within six days.

He also revealed that there will also be ‘RepYourTribe Carnival’ aimed at celebrating diverse cultures. A call to every Nigerian to show off their tribe on all online platforms and a physical celebration carnival live at the Stadium grounds alongside the creation of the world record drawing, a digital and physical extravaganza, honouring Nigeria’s cultural tapestry”, he disclosed.

David, who is also a speed painter, explained that the project aimed to incorporate the hearts and stories of Nigerians living together despite their different cultures and traditions.

Meanwhile, the current record for the largest drawing by an individual is held by Ravi Soni of India, with a 629.98 square metre drawing.

Should Fola David go ahead to break and create this record, he would be joining the ranks of other Nigerians who already have their names with the Guinness World Record.
