Longlegs Debuts With 100% On Rotten Tomatoes; Here's What You Need To Know About Nicolas Cage Film

Longlegs has been dubbed as the scariest and best of the horror genre in a long time. The early reviews of the feature film have critics and fans raving without giving away any spoilers about the plot. One of the biggest things that has fans excited in the actor Nicolas Cage. According to reports he will be seen playing as one of the leading characters but is hardly seen in the trailer, which has increased the mystery around the film. With a perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes, Longlegs has become the most anticipated movie of the month.

Not much about the film's plot has been revealed except what has been hinted in the trailer. Longlegs synopsis on Rotten Tomatoes reads, “In pursuit of a serial killer, an FBI agent uncovers a series of occult clues that she must solve to end his terrifying killing spree.” According to reports, the film directed by Oz Perkins (best known for Gretel & Hansel, I Am the Pretty Thing that Lives in the House), is set in the 1990s and will follow the agent as she uncovers the truth behind each murder. Possibly experiencing some of the victim's horrors herself.

According to reports, the film will explore how the rookie agent gets closer to the killer and uncovers his satanic occult practices with each case. However, the situation gets worse when she realises her connection to the killer. The film is already being compared to the 1990s release Silence Of The Lambs and has a trailer that backs these claims.

Meanwhile, the trailer begins with Maika Monroe's character Agent Lee Harker who is introduced to a crime scene. She walks into a room with the dead body while the team reveals to her that 10 more similar cases have been found in the past 30 years. The only clue left behind at each crime scene is a letter signed with the word Longlegs.

What makes the Perfect Rotten Tomatoes score even special is that Longlegs has marked his first film to hit the mark. Nicholas Cage’s last film to receive near-positive reviews from critics was 2021’s Drama film Pig, which scored 97%, and 1993’s Red Rock West landed a 98% ranking. Academy Award winner has featured in over 100 movies, but this serial killer horror flick has finally made history.

The menacing aura in the trailer already had the audience captivated but now the early reviews have everyone waiting. The reactions are filled with intense praise for the director and the performances. Bill Bria from Slash Film described the film as, “It’s the most terrifying horror movie of 2024, a film that gets under your skin and may never get out.”

Matt Neglia, editor of Next Best Picture deemed Longlegs “one of the best serial killer films in recent memory”. His Twitter review called it “psychologically scarring” as well as “sinister” and an “unnerving descent into hell that will haunt your mind and soul”.

On the other hand, Katie Rife from IGN Movies wrote, “There are moments when Longlegs feels like a movie you’ve seen before, but with an evil filter laid over it: This is both a weakness and a strength, as Perkins’ horror surrealism renders the familiar strange and the strange familiar.”

The film is set to release on July 12, 2024.
