The Minister of Agrarian, Territorial, and Urban Development, Román Meyer, emphasizes the critical role of robust territorial planning policies in achieving sustainable housing in Mexico. Authorities are calling for a policy shift toward the creation of a new Law of Territorial Planning to combat the housing deficit in an organized manner.

Speaking at the Fair Housing and Shared Prosperity Forum, organized by the Infonavit Cultural Space and the global consultancy Urban Front from El País América, Meyer highlighted the administration's efforts toward transforming the housing sector.

Meyer outlined the administration's initiatives, including the introduction of self-production strategies aimed at reducing the housing deficit and enhancing the quality of life for Mexican families. "Our policy seeks to address the realities faced by many Mexicans daily, integrating decision-making in urban planning and public space development to create sustainable housing solutions," he stated.

Edna Vega, Deputy Minister of Territorial Planning, underscored the importance of advancing a new Territorial Planning Law to regulate and organize land use effectively. She expressed confidence in the ongoing efforts to combat housing shortages and stressed the need to establish new standards in housing policy.

Vega said the National Housing Policy has unified efforts to promote affordable, resilient, and sustainable living environments, particularly for historically marginalized groups. "The current administration prioritizes both the quantitative and qualitative aspects of housing. This new approach has led to significant changes, such as the National Self-Production Strategy, which resulted in over 1.6 million housing-related actions and an investment exceeding MX$10 billion (US$552 million)," Vega Rangel explained.
