LGSPB flags off Training for Retiring Teachers

The Oyo State Local Government Staff Pension Board, LGSPB, has flagged off a 2-Day Sensitization Training Programme for Retiring Primary School Teachers and Local Government Staff across the State.

Speaking at the Event held at the House of Chiefs, Secretariat, Ibadan, Chairman of the Board, Alhaji Akeem Ige said, the aim of the programme was to enlighten the beneficiaries who are due for retirement between July and December, 2024 on the procedural approach to processing their retirement benefits within a short time.

Alhaji Ige, however, commended the State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde for his  welfare packages for both Pensioners and Serving Civil Servants,such as the payment of over Eighteen Billion Naira as part of the backlog of gratuity being owed by the previous administrations in Oyo State.

On his part, the Permanent Secretary, Local Government Staff Pension Board, Alhaji Lukman Muraina noted that, the Sensitization programme would go a long way to assist the Participants to have an improved and seamless relationship with the authorized Agencies for effective and efficient service delivery. 

Alhaji Muraina enjoined the beneficiaries to pay rapt attention to the lectures and trainings which he said would help them make  adequate plan for a secured and fulfilling retirement. 

Earlier, the Head of Service, Oyo State, Mrs Olubunmi Oni, called on the Retiring Staff to make use of the great opportunity that the training would afford them noting that  it was the first of it’s kind by  the Board. 

In a goodwill message, Executive Chairman, Oyo State Universal Basic Board, SUBEB, Dr. Nureni Adeniran, represented by the Executive Secretary of the Board, Mrs Aderonke Ladipo appealed to the Retiring Officers not  involve any  third Party to serve as intermediary while processing their Pensions and gratuity, maintaining that, most of their activities are illegal and fraudulence. 

Charging the participants, Oyo State Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Dr. Olusegun Abatan advised Civil Servants to have robust plans for retirement, noting that all the free largese would stop immediately after retirement from Service. 

Dr. Abatan urged them to make judicious use of their gratuity  which is paid once in a life time.
