The story

Bafana Bafana and Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper, Ronwen Williams lauched his Ronwen 30 Foundation, a football-focused initiative that uses football as a platform to "educate, embolden, and empower the youth."

Like Ronwen has done in the last few years of his career, especially when he took over as Bafana Bafana captain in 2021, his foundation aims to "break boundaries, instill hope, and inspire dreams through the beautiful game."

In a recent interview with iDiski Times, Williams expressed his admiration for Springbok captain and rugby superstar, Siya Kolisi and revealed how a conversation with the two-time Rugby World Cup-winner inspired him to start his own foundation:

"Siya Kolisi inspires me," Williams told iDiski Times' Velile Mnyandu, adding: "I have had many conversations with him about what he is doing. His Foundation inspired me to start mine as well. We have had the opportunity to have a chat about this, and hopefully, in the future, we can link up and do something for the whole Gqeberha and not only where we come from."

As both national team captains being Gqeberha natives, with Williams hailing from Gelvandale and Kolisi being from Zwide, the reigning PSL Footballer of the Season wants to give back to the entire city alongside the living rugby legend:

"We want to give back to the whole Gqeberha because there are so many kids that have the talent, but they don’t have the opportunities, and maybe they don't even have that belief that they can make it. So, hopefully in the future when the time allows myself, Siya and a few others that have made it, we can holistically get the whole Gqeberha involved."

Williams launched his foundation with a two-day football clinic over the Youth Day long weekend, at Gelvandale Primary School (his alma mater), catering for young boys and girls who want to hone their football skills further.
