Highlights

  • Triple H acknowledges Damian Priest's failed kickout as a mistake.
  • Priest will be remembered for the error, overshadowing his positive performance.
  • Triple H emphasizes that mistakes happen and praises Priest's professionalism.

During the post-show conference for Money in the Bank, Triple H was asked about what happened in the World Title match where Damian Priest failed to kick out of a pinning attempt by Seth Rollins. It wasn't clear if Drew McIntyre's music was supposed to hit to interrupt the count or if Priest was supposed to kick out. Either way, he didn't and that left a lot of questions.

Did Damian Priest Screw Up?

Triple H acknowledged the failed kickout and said it was a shame that this is what Priest may be remembered for on this night. Essentially admitting it was a big mistake that everyone saw, Triple H answered the question like he was in character and said wanted to have a conversation with the official to see what the ref saw that no one else saw.

Triple H didn't clear up whether something else was supposed to happen, but when it was asked if Priest was injured and that's why he didn't kick out, it sounded like that was not the case. Some believed maybe Priest was temporarily knocked out, but that wasn't confirmed. It sounded more like a mistake.

Triple H Said It Was Unfortunate, But Things Happen

Triple H made sure to give credit to Priest and everyone in that match for the performances they put on. He said he feels bad for Priest because even after all the positives, the thing he'll dwell on is the mistake. Triple H said he wished he could find Priest, turn his phone off, and just let him think about all the good things he did.

Noting that people like to focus in on the errors and not the positives, the takeaway from that performance is that Priest should have lost the title based on what happened. But, fans will be negative about the mistake and will be all over Priest for not kicking out in what was a big moment.

Things happen, suggested Triple H. Everyone will move on and Priest was thrown a lot of love for being a true professional and one of the best in the company, having earned everything he's been given in WWE. He noted, "Human beings in a ring, mistakes happen, things happen, it is what it is." He added, "It's funny for me now looking at that - if that was something I was involved in as a talent, I don't care how good the rest of it was, that would be all I would think about."
