Troops of the Multinational Task Force (MNJTF), under the auspices of Operation Lake Sanity II, have killed 70 terrorists, destroying the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) camps in the Lake Chad region.

Announcing this, yesterday, in a statement, in Maiduguri, the Chief of Military Public Information, Lt-Col. Abubakar Abdullahi, said the about-an-hour military operation led to the destruction of eight Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Devices (VBIEDs) and two ammunition bunkers.

He stated that there was a significant breakthrough in the fight against terrorism in the region, including the shores of the lake.

Abdullahi added that in a swift response, Sector 2, supported by the Chadian Rapid Intervention Force (CRIF), neutralised 70 terrorists and dismantled five camps.

“This has demonstrated the effectiveness of MNJTF’s operational strategies and strong collaboration with the Chadian Armed Forces,” he said.

“The MNJTF is committed to eradicating terrorism to restore peace to the Lake Chad Basin,” he added, assuring that the military task force will continue to work tirelessly with its partners to achieve and sustain peace in the region.
