La PINE, Ore. (KTVZ) – A reported dispute involving gunfire brought Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies to a La Pine home late Saturday night and when they heard more gunshots, the SWAT Team was activated. A 33-year-old La Pine man was arrested, with the help of a K-9 bite, and no one else was injured.

Deputies were dispatched around 11 p.m. to the dispute involving gunfire at a home in the 15000 block of Old Mill Road, Sergeant Kyle Kalmbach said.

Eventually, a “sheriff’s office K-9 was deployed to prevent the subject from obtaining additional weapons,” the sergeant said in a news release.

Just before midnight, the 33-year-old suspect was taken into custody in the home’s front yard after being identified as the person firing the gun, Kalmbach said.

The suspect was taken to St. Charles Bend for “ingestion of a harmful substance and minor injuries from a K-9 bite,” the sergeant added.

Once medically released from the hospital, Kalmbach said the man will be booked into the county jail in Bend on one count each of unlawful use of a weapon, felon in possession of a firearm and recklessly endangering another person, as well as an in-state warrant.

A shotgun believed to be used in the crime was later recovered, the sergeant said.
