Benue govt. begins Bonta/Ukpute boundary demarcation, calls for peace

Benue State government has commenced the formal demarcation of the boundary between Bonta and Ukpute communities of Konshisha and Oju Local Government Areas.

Speaking during the event at Bonta, Konshisha Local Government, Benue Deputy Governor, Sam Ode called on the youths from the two communities to sheathe their sword and embrace peace in order to become useful to themselves and the society.

Bonta and Ukpute communities, are known for their long unceasing communal conflicts ending lives, rendering people homeless and destroying property worth millions.

At a gathering organised, the Deputy Governor who is also the Chairman, Benue State Boundary Commission disclosed that a carrot and stick approach would be adopted in the demarcation exercise, stating that ultimately, what the state want is peace.

He maintained that something must be done as soon as possible to engage the youths of the state meaningfully for the benefit of the communities in the state.

Community leader, and stakeholders commended the Deputy Governor for the laudable step, describing the demarcation as an epoch-making event and appealed for unity among the people to draw development to the areas.

The Deputy Governor who commended the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue team for being at the forefront of resolving the crisis between the two communities, expressed appreciation to the traditional rulers and other stakeholders for their contribution to ensure peace and unity reigns among the people.
