Is Bob Hearts Abishola Season 6 Happening? Everything We Know
Bob Hearts Abishola season 6 is the hoped-for continuation of the CBS sitcom that finished its fifth season on May 6, 2024. Starring Billy Gardell, famous for leading the cast of Mike and Molly, and Folake Olowofoyeku of Transparent, Bob Hearts Abishola is about divorced sock company owner Bob Wheeler (Gardell) who falls head over heels in love with his nurse, Nigerian-born Abishola Bolatito Doyinsola Oluwatoyin (Olowofoyeku), after he suffers a stress-induced heart attack. The series tracks the pair from smitten lovebirds to husband and wife of many years.
The series has been nominated for two Emmys and is notable as one of the few network TV shows to star an interracial couple. Bob Hearts Abishola (stylized as BOB❤️ABISHOLA) first premiered on September 23, 2019, earning a 57% on Rotten Tomatoes for its first season. Created by Chuck Lorre, showrunner of Young Sheldon and The Big Bang Theory, among many other classic sitcoms, and co-created by Gina Yashere, Eddie Gorodetsky, and Al Higgins, Bob Hearts Abishola managed to survive the COVID-19 pandemic, and now fans are wondering when season 6 will arrive.
Bob Hearts Abishola star Billy Gardell reflects on the series coming to an end with season 5, following the emotional final episode of the series.
Unfortunately for fans of the show, there are no plans for Bob Hearts Abishola season 6. It was announced in November 2023 that season 5 would be the last season for Bob Hearts Abishola. The series finale, season 5, episode 13, "Find Your Bench", premiered on May 6, 2024, and ended with a time jump seven years into the future, capping the series with a farewell montage of previous episodes.
When season 5 of Bob Hearts Abishola was announced, it came with the odd additional news that 11 out of the 13 Bob Hearts Abishola main cast members would have their roles reduced, and be downgraded to recurring cast. This is highly unusual and doesn't bode well for those cast members if season 6 were ever to happen. Either the showrunners may not be willing to pay full cast salary or the actors may feel slighted and not want to return.

Without Bob Hearts Abishola being confirmed, there are no story details for season 6. Season 5 ends with a time jump set seven years into the future, with Abishola becoming one of the top pediatricians in Detroit and Bob planning to write a business/self-help book. Season 6 would have to be an epilogue season to show where the main characters ended up.
Chuck Lorre is no stranger to spin-off series either, considering one of his biggest shows, Young Sheldon , is a spin-off/prequel to The Big Bang Theory .
Or it could be a revival series, like The Conners, introducing a new cast of characters with Bob and Abishola for a different kind of story. Chuck Lorre is no stranger to spin-off series either, considering one of his biggest shows, Young Sheldon, is a spin-off/prequel to The Big Bang Theory.
Bob Hearts Abishola co-creator Gina Yashere was not necessarily surprised that her show was canceled and considers that part of a wider problem of TV diversity. In an interview with The Wrap, Yashere, who also co-stars in Bob Hearts Abishola as Oluwakemi "Kemi" Adeyemi, said,
"It always happens that way. Some big event galvanizes all these networks and causes people to go, 'Oh, no, equality. We need to be less racist.' And then they do this big show of performative bookings and employment of people. Then, when the zeitgeist dies down, they start quietly letting go of all these big ideas that they originally were singing about to the rooftops. It’s that last in, first out thing."
Yashere's problem with how CBS, and studios and networks in general, treat shows like Bob Hearts Abishola is they see them only as a way to take advantage of the cultural zeitgeist. But representation isn't a fad. It's critical in all facets of life, including film and television, and Yashere's point is that networks need to consider diverse productions as a matter of course, not a matter of what's currently trending.
