A new store was inaugurated on rue de la Citadelle this Friday, June 28. Supported by the D’Ici association, it brings together the works of artisans, most of them from surrounding villages. "We are part of a collective of creators in Roquebrun gathered in the Mon Bel Oranger" space, explains Gaëlle Moallic, one of the founders of the band. "We wanted to offer a completely different space of visibility in the city. It’s about offering us new possibilities, reaching out to a new, more urban clientele, and having a larger place to accommodate more people. In Roquebrun, there are less than ten artisans exhibiting, here there can be around fifteen. There will be seven permanent staff taking turns in the shop". The idea of coming to settle in Béziers came from Max le Centulois, leatherworker from Béziers and president of the D’Ici collective. "I told myself that there were more tourists here than in Roquebrun. Besides, everything there works seasonally. There was the desire to try a place all year round. A shop is good because we are all a little fed up with Christmas markets." It is therefore possible to find the most diverse objects in these premises on rue de the Citadel: clothes, toys, lamps, pottery, etc. For example, Christine is inspired by the Japanese folding technique Furoshiki to create origami bags, with fabrics from fair trade in Burkina Faso. Florence makes lighting using an ancestral technique dating from before the advent of crochet. Baptiste assembles recycled metal to create sculptures with an atypical universe. Francine, for her part, makes wooden toys for toddlers with her own hands. This is just a sample of the diversity of worlds offered by this group of supportive artisans.
