The Kebbi State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has called on the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) government to immediately sack the caretaker committee appointed to manage the local government councils.

This decision was made during a stakeholders’ meeting in Birnin Kebbi on Monday.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, which was attended by the party’s senators, House of Representatives members, the governorship candidate from the last election, and other chieftains, PDP’s publicity secretary, Sani Dododo, expressed the party’s stance.

He said the PDP welcomes the Supreme Court judgement on local government autonomy and is ready to participate in the local government election scheduled for August 31.

Dododo revealed that the party had written to the government following the Supreme Court’s judgement, urging the immediate dismissal of all caretaker appointees and the conduct of elections in accordance with constitutional provisions.

He said, “The PDP is not afraid of elections. The party has been participating in and winning elections across the states since 1999. We are fully ready to participate in the local government election, and we are confident of victory.”

Dododo further addressed rumours, affirming that Senator Adamu Aliero, Senator Yahaya Abdullahi, Senator Musa Mai Doki, and other elected House of Representatives members remain active members of the PDP in Kebbi State.

“They are with us and remain active members of the PDP,” he stated.

He added that all elected PDP members were mandated to brief their constituencies on their projects at a town hall meeting every six months.
