The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announce tying at the top in the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC) ranking, alongside four other Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

The NCS announced an impressive 81.5 percent increase in its PEBEC ranking, moving up 33 places from its previous position.

This advancement places the NCS at the forefront among 36 assessed MDAs, highlighting its dedication to improving business environments through enhanced trade facilitation measures implemented over the past year.

The comptroller general of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, attributed this success to strategic reforms aimed at boosting service delivery, transparency, and support for key economic sectors.

The PEBEC ranking assesses MDAs based on eight broad indicators, including efficiency, transparency, and support for manufacturing and agricultural exports.

From 2020 to 2022, the NCS maintained an average score of 18.45 percent, ranking 28th among 37 MDAs.

In 2023, its ranking further declined to 34th out of 39 MDAs, with a score of 18.53 percent.

However, the year 2024 marked a remarkable turnaround for the NCS, achieving a perfect score of 100 percent and tying for the top position.

Adeniyi expressed pride in the Service’s achievement and emphasized the positive impact of the implemented reforms on Nigeria’s trade and business environment.
