In a dire situation unfolding in Assam, severe floods have submerged more than 26 percent of the forest camps within Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve, an official report disclosed on Monday.

As wildlife habitats are increasingly engulfed, numerous animals are migrating across National Highway-715 towards higher grounds in East Karbi Anglong district. Thankfully, no animal deaths have been reported due to these floods or highway crossings.

According to the flood report, the rising water levels have inundated 61 forest camps across different ranges, including Agoratoli, Kaziranga, Bagori, Burhapahar, and Bokakhat, alongside 10 forest camps in Biswanath Wildlife Division.

In response, the Golaghat district administration issued prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC to prevent accidents and safeguard the migrating wildlife, particularly along NH-715, where heavy traffic poses a threat.

The new orders restrict commercial vehicles and regulate private vehicle speeds, particularly at nighttime. Various diversion points have also been established.

As the floods continue to ravage the state, affecting countless lives, Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma of comprehensive support to tackle the crisis.
