Just a short while ago, news broke about a significant appointment in President William Ruto’s administration this evening. According to kenyans.co.ke, the cabinet secretary of Treasury Prof Njuguna Ndung’u announced the appointment of Mr Raphael Owino as the new director of The Public Debt Management Office (PDMO), succeeding Dr Haron Sirima.

This appointment comes at a time when President William Ruto has recently called for an audit of the country’s public debt, indicating a renewed emphasis on transparency and accountability. Dr Haron Sirima, who has held the position for several years, leaves the office after overseeing the final installment payment of Eurobond amounting to Shs 72 Billion on June 21. Mr Owino will now be responsible for managing Kenya’s debt, which stands at Shs 10 Trillion.

The appointment of Raphael Owino as the new director of The Public Debt Management Office (PDMO) aligns with President William Ruto’s push for greater transparency and accountability in the management of the country’s public debt.
