The Upper East Regional communication officer for the NDC, Jonathan Abdallah Salifu has voiced serious concerns over the region’s deteriorating state during an interview on the Daybreak Upper East show on Thursday.

In response to recent statistics highlighting a higher poverty rate, he criticized local politicians, including Members of Parliament, District Chief Executives, and Municipal Chief Executives, for what he described as inadequate performance.

He lamented the diminishing practice of town hall meetings and accountability mechanisms, suggesting that these forums were crucial in holding leaders accountable in the past.

Mr. Abdallah Salifu underscored the corrosive influence of politics on regional development efforts, asserting that divisive political agendas are hindering progress rather than fostering unity. He said part of the region’s plight is the corrosive impact of partisan politics, asserting that political divisions have hindered collaborative efforts needed to combat poverty effectively.

He urged current leaders to maximize their opportunities to serve effectively, emphasizing the importance of leaving a lasting positive impact that resonates with citizens even after their tenure ends.

In advocating for proactive measures, he called on individuals to take personal responsibility for contributing to the region’s improvement. He emphasized the collective duty of citizens to actively participate in initiatives aimed at fostering development and enhancing the quality of life in their communities.

He also urged stakeholders at all levels to prioritize effective governance, equitable resource allocation, and sustained efforts towards achieving tangible and inclusive development outcomes.
