Gifford closes water tower for painting work

GIFFORD, Ill. (WCIA) — One Central Illinois community will be limited on its water supply.

The Village of Gifford drained their water tower to start painting. They’ll be working on the lower half for about two weeks. Village President Adam Pannbacker said they shouldn’t run into any issues, but if they do, they’ve already set up partnerships to borrow extra water from nearby towns.

“Yes, we still have water if everything goes right, which it has in the past. We’ve done this a few times,” he said. “No one will really even notice the slightest difference. The water is still safe to drink. Everything will be exactly the same. The only thing that we ask people to do is maybe not use as much water as they normally would.”

Pannbacker said the paint has been delivered and they’re ready to start working on the tower.
