None other than Deadpool has acknowledged Marvel vs. Capcom. In the latest issue of the Deadpool comic series, the Merc With a Mouth referenced the iconic fighting game crossover franchise, specifically Marvel vs. Capcom 4.

X user Stealth posted a page from the recently released Deadpool issue, showcasing the eponymous character teaming with Taskmaster to battle a cult. Wade and Taskmaster use a combination attack, with the former jumping off the latter's shield, flying through the air, unleashing bullets at their cloaked adversaries. "Deadpool...and Taskmaster. Best. Friends. For. Ever!" Deadpool exclaims in the act before hitting a wall and landing upside down. "They should put that move in Marvel vs. Capcom 4," Wade says, fueling speculation that another installment of the retro fighting game title could be in the works.

The reference to Marvel vs. Capcom in Deadpool comes on the heels of the recent Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics announcement during a Nintendo Direct. The collection will bundle all the classic games into one package, bringing them to modern systems for the first time. Many hope the collection will foreshadow Marvel vs. Capcom 4. 2017's Marvel vs. Capcom:Infinite, a tie-in with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is the closest fans have come to getting a Marvel vs. Capcom 4. Infinite's reception was not stellar due to the game's underwhelming roster, story campaign, and semi-realistic art style.

Deadpool was playable in Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and its updated re-release, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, but was among the characters cut from Infinite's roster. In Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Wade breaks the fourth wall and uses his own Health Bar as a weapon for a Hyper Combo. With the ability, he can also directly talk to the player whenever they win and ask Capcom to be featured on the cover of the next Street Fighter.
