The Center For Information Technology and Development has begun the training of primary school teachers in Bauchi State.

The training which is in partnership with the Bauchi Local Government Education Authority is geared to equip the teachers with the skills to navigate digital technologies and provide the students with basic ICT skills.

Speaking at the commencement of the training at Anguwan Borno Primary School on Tuesday, the Education Sectary Bauchi Local Government Education Authority, Nuru Abdulhameed noted that the need to aggressively focus on teaching ICT is long overdue, hence the need to swing into practicals.

“It is an opportunity for us at the Bauchi Local Education Authority to benefit from this training, and that is why I urge the selected teachers to utilise the privilege.

“The training as such should not be all about allowance, but the takeaway knowledge,” Abdulhameed stated.

Thus, he advised the participants  to always take advantage of every knowledge in a bid to stay relevant in their profession.

He added that learning ICT will aid in navigating and improving the economy, stating that there are several opportunities in the ICT world.

Abdulhameed assured that the LEA will appeal to the State Universal Basic Education Board to extend the training to other teachers.

Also speaking, the Senior Program Officer Center for Information Technology and Development,  Isah Garba explained that, “The ICT training for some selected primary schools teachers is aimed at improving their skills and scale up productivity and quality delivery.

“The training is solely to train the pupils under a Catch Them Young Program through CITAD’s ICT for Kids Program, but we realise that training the teachers before the pupils will pave the way for sustainability.

“Also, we are hopeful that the participants will share the skills with their colleagues, by this step-by-step method, all our teachers and students in the state will be computer literate.”

He disclosed that “the target is to train 200 pupils from four primary schools in the Bauchi Local Government Area.” This, he pointed out, “will build an ICT foundation in the students that will help them navigate with ease opportunities that are in the ICT world when they come of age.”

On his part, the Bauchi State Program Officer and team lead of CITAD, Mr. Mujahid Ibrahim noted that the training would also scale up instruction in primary schools as well as strengthen the teachers’ economy.

According to him, the nation’s social challenges, including food insecurity, could be contained through a technological framework born out of ICT knowledge.

Reacting, some of the participants at the training, Maryam Jibrin Umar from Kobi Primary School and Muhammad Ismail from Babban Mutum Science Primary School hailed the gesture and promised to impact the knowledge of their students and colleagues.
