Rumble in Nollywood

The Nation Nigeria 2024/5/18

The past week was filled with some sort of rumble in the Nigerian film industry.

Many practitioners of the industry, who are mostly popular for their roles in films rendered in Yoruba language, have turned social media into a battleground for different reasons.

Call it a coincidence but last week has been filled with drama featuring Eniola Badmus, Lege Miami, Dayo Amusa, Femi Adebayo and Eniola Ajao.

The rumble in the world of Nigerian celebrities kicked off with controversial actress, Tonto Dikeh instigating the arrest of social media influencer, Vincent Otsay aka Very Dark Man for cyberbullying. The drama, which many thought will end on social media, culminated in an arrest and release of Very Dark Man. The two have continued to haunt themselves on social media even after the arrest and release.

Just when fans were adjusting to the week’s drama, Kehinde Adams aka Lege Miami stirred the hornet’s nest when he accused Eniola Badmus of being picky and choosy with men.

It all began with a viral video, where Lege Miami mentioned names of popular actresses that have graced his matchmaking platform seeking partners – including Eniola Badmus.

The singer, actor cum influencer went a step further saying Badmus got a partner on his platform but he doesn’t know why their relationship isn’t working. He went on to say Badmus was being picky and choosy.

In response to Lege’s video, Badmus took to the comment section to urge Lege Miami to be circumspect and discreet but Lege Miami flared up and took a swipe at Badmus saying he knew all that transpired between her and the partner she found on his platform.

This conversation riled Badmus, who took to her social media account to respond to her colleague with expletives.

Eniola Ajao registered her name in the Nollywood rumble when she premiered her new film, ‘Ajakaju: Beast of two worlds’. The premiere had several celebrities in attendance and Ajao decided to reward popular transgender Bobrisky as the best dressed female to attract publicity and attention to the show. The award was presented by Femi Adebayo, who was oblivious of the situation.

Shortly after the premiere, Dayo Amusa registered her displeasure over the recognition given Bobrisky by her colleague and berated Adebayo for presenting such an award to the transgender. This degenerated to a war of words that enveloped Amusa, Adebayo and his wife. Adebayo was even invited by the police for allegedly promoting homosexuality.

Eniola Ajao, who is at the centre of it all didn’t help matters when she granted an interview saying the decision to reward Bobrisky with the Best Dressed Female was merely a publicity stunt that had nothing to do with Adebayo. She has since tendered an unreserved apology and urged fans to go to cinemas to watch her new film.
