Nigeria has been plunged into darkness following the collapse of the national power grid system.

The nationwide blackout has left electricity distribution companies (DisCos) unable to supply power to their customers, prompting widespread apologies from the affected companies.

The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company Plc (EEDC) issued a notice to its customers detailing the situation.

“EEDC wishes to inform her esteemed customers of a general system (national grid) collapse which occurred at 15:09 hours today, 6th July, 2024,” the notice stated.

“This has resulted in the loss of supply currently being experienced across the network,” the notice continued.

“Due to this development, all our interface TCN stations are out of supply, and we are unable to provide services to our customers in Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo States.”

The EEDC reassured its customers that they are on standby awaiting detailed information on the grid collapse and the restoration of supply from the National Control Centre (NCC) in Osogbo.

The company expressed its regret for the inconvenience caused and promised to keep the public informed as the situation develops.

The collapse of the national grid has had a significant impact on businesses, homes, and essential services across Nigeria, highlighting ongoing challenges in the country’s energy sector.
