Indonesian doctors have made the extraordinary decision to medically evacuate an Australian woman Rebecca Ode  after suffering horrific injuries while on holiday.

Rebecca Ode, from Newcastle, NSW, was found on the side of a road on the island of Nusa Lembongan, southeast of Bali, on Monday night after what is understood to have been a motorcycle accident.

She was reportedly semi-conscious and had a brain haemorrhage, shattered eye socket, cheekbones and collarbones.

The 36-year-old was rushed to Ngoerah General Hospital in Denpasar where she underwent 14 hours of surgery to stop the bleeding in her brain and to save her eyes.

Ms Ode was on an extended holiday in the popular Asian country since January as she reportedly tried to recover from her father’s sudden suicide in April 2022.

Her mother Shari and sister Jordyn flew to Bali to be by her bedside this week.

The family launched a GoFundMe page to raise money for Ms Ode’s medical evacuation back to Australia after Dr Bagus Mahadewa warned she may have cerebral fluid still trapped in her skull.

According to the Daily Mail, Ms Ode’s medical evacuation is now underway after the family managed to raise $206,000 in their appeal.

Ms Ode could be back to Australia in three to four hours on an air ambulance flight.

Nusa Penida Police Chief Ida Bagus Putra Sumerta confirmed earlier this week Ms Ode was involved in a motorcycle crash and an investigation is set to be launched into the incident.

It is believed she was driving a Yamaha scooter and crashed into a parked motorbike.

Following her reconstructive surgery, Ms Ode woke up in hospital seemingly confused and asked: "what happened to me?"

A plastic surgeon, ophthalmologist andorthopaedic specialist also worked on her.

Doctors first worked to "correct her head bones" and treat the "leak in her brain", according to neurosurgeon specialist Professor Tjokorda Gde Bagus Mahadewa.

"Then we did a correction on her face and nose because it's all broken. An ophthalmologist was also involved to handle her right eye, while anorthopaedic specialist performed surgery to her bones," Professor Mahadewa told Daily Mail.

"The ophthalmologist has said that her eye may not be saved,” he said.

"She is also suffering amnesia. She can't remember the accident at all."

The structural damage to Ms Ode’s face is expected to leave her disfigured for life.
