President Ramaphosa appoints Solly Malatsi as Communications Minister in a unity government formed by eleven parties.

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has announced the appointment of members to the National Executive, with Solly Malatsi named as the new Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies.

In his statement, President Ramaphosa emphasized the foundational principles guiding this Government of National Unity (GNU), which is committed to a basic minimum programme of priorities. He highlighted that the formation of the GNU came after extensive discussions over the past few weeks, resulting in eleven parties agreeing to collaborate in government and Parliament.

The parties involved in this coalition are the African National Congress (ANC), Democratic Alliance (DA), Patriotic Alliance, Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP), Good Party, Pan Africanist Congress of Azania (PAC), Freedom Front Plus (FF+), United Democratic Movement (UDM), Al Jama-ah, Rise Mzansi, and the United Africans Transformation.

This coalition is governed by a Statement of Intent that sets out the fundamental principles and a minimum programme of priorities for the GNU, ensuring a unified and effective approach to governance and parliamentary functions.
