A Cold War-era bunker that can withstand a nuclear attack could be yours for a bargain sum - and even comes with parking and log burner.

After being decommissioned in the 1990s, the bunker is now up for auction with a guide price of £15,000 - £20,000 and has been refurbished and decorated by its previous owner.

House hunters were quick to spot the unusual listing and suggested it could be a particularly useful piece of real estate 'the way things are going at the moment' - presumably referring to the threat of nuclear war in Europe.

Those fretting over President Putin's repeated nuclear threats over the last two years since the invasion of Ukraine could take advantage of the property's lockable 'hatch', underground location, thick walls and access shaft.

One image shows the original entry into the bunker - a rusty ladder down a narrow, concrete tunnel.

Another image features the inside of the main 'living' area, a cosy and plain room with a small log stove surrounded by wooden chairs.

Social media users branded the property 'quirky' and 'the right size for a gaming cave', with others said that they 'love it' and hailed it 'deliciously weird'.

The listing also notes that 'the bunker is secure, dry and in its original condition' with 'secure off-street parking' as well as an onsite shed.

Andrew Parker, managing director and auctioneer at SDL Property Auctions, said: "This is a fantastic opportunity to purchase a piece of post-war British history.

"The site was one of many built in the 1950s and was designed to provide protective accommodation for three observers to report on the fall out of a nuclear attack.

"They were provided with enough food and water for 14 days and had a landline and radio communications available to them.

"It is in excellent condition, redecorated, clean, dry and secure and comes with a plot of land with gate for access and secure off-road parking. It even comes with an active phone line suitable for broadband.

"It's a privilege to be able to sell a unique lot such as this and it follows SDL Property Auctions selling a similar nuclear bunker in Louth back in 2022.

"We've already received significant interest on this lot and we anticipate a high level of bidders and online viewers on auction day."

While many house hunters have been excited at the thought of owning a piece of history, others have had their concerns.

One person commented: "Ten minutes in one is enough for most people to realise they would rather be nuked."

A second said: "The way things are going at the mo..."
Another user commented: "Rather die than live in that for 30 year nuclear winter."

A fourth, however, commented: "Fun and entirely impractical, I love it."

AN incredible nuclear bunker has been listed for sale with its price slashed by more than half.

The Cold War fortification, buried in the woods of Xanten, Germany, offers the ultimate protection as fears of WW3 spiral.

The bomb shelter's thick doors are hidden away by overgrown woods in the North Rhine-Westphalia.

Behind the blast-proof doors, there is a self-contained bunker with working lavatories, electricity and a filtered air ventilation system.

The "bomb-proof investment" was first put on the market in 2022 for £1.4 million.

But the asking price has since been reduced to £700,000.

A fifth added: "The four-minute warning sounds, I think of myself a genius that I had the foresight to buy and perfectly stock my own nuclear bunker, and then comes the realisation that I live six hours away."

For anyone interested in the property, the auction will be taking place on Thursday 25th July 2024 at 9am.
