Departures are to be expected this summer in the midfield department at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Daniel Levy and co have already waved goodbye to Tanguy Ndombele who has seen his contract torn up and there’s the expectation for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to be sold.

Tottenham leading the race to sign in-demand midfielder

Already there have been a host of names linked with a potential move to north London this summer and some of them are believed to be on the radar of both clubs.

Changes are going to have to be made by Postecoglou this summer with the midfield proving a real issue for him last season.

Throughout the campaign, the Australian struggled to nail down his best three players in the starting XI with a constant turnover from game to game.

According to TuttoJuve, Spurs are the leading candidates to sign the AS Monaco midfielder Youssouf Fofana this summer.

The Lilywhites are said to be at the front of the queue for the 25-year-old France international who could command an asking price of around €30m (£25m).

However, a swoop for the Monaco midfielder is not going to come unrivaled with Juventus, Arsenal and Manchester United all credited with an interest in the report.

What Cesc Fabregas had to say about Youssouf Fofana

Over the 2023/24 campaign, Fofana played 35 times for Monaco where he was able to rack up four goals and four assists.

The Frenchman impressed to the extent that he received a call-up to the national side for this summer’s European Championship.

He is a player who former Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas is familiar with having played together during his time with Monaco.

“He’s a very dynamic and strong player, good on the ball, a modern type of player, aggressive, can jump, he’s box to box. I really like Fofana and I think he fits very well with the Premier League style,” Fabregas said on BBC’s Planet Premier League podcast.
